UPDATE: According to an SCEE representative, LittleBigPlanet has been recalled worldwide. The reason behind the recall is due to offensive material featured within the soundtrack of one of the game's levels. We'll keep you updated if anything changes.

ORIGINAL STORY: According to MCV, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has delayed the release of LittleBigPlanet in PAL territories, with the game now expected to show up in November.

Developed by Media Molecule, the ambitious PlayStation 3 exclusive title was originally scheduled to appear in Europe on October 24.

No reason was given for the delay, though an official announcement from the company is expected shortly, where it is believed Sony will confirm a November 14 launch date for the hotly anticipated platform romp.

Stay tuned for further information.

Sony released an official statement saying that during the review process it came to there attention that there are two references to quotes from the quaran in one of the background songs and they're removing them so they don't offend anyone but they haven't given a new release date yet.

Oh man, I read “Sony Delays LittleBigPlanet”. I thought it was going to be in North America at first. That would have been sad, since 5 days seems like it’s taking forever already.

The release of LittleBigPlanet, one of the most anticipated games to hit the PlayStation 3 this year, has been delayed globally and will now no longer hit shelves on October 24.

Though no official reason has been given for the delay it's been widely speculated that one of the in-game songs quoted heavily from the Qur'an, and could have potentially upset Muslim players.

Have you seen the mail that the guy send to sony

To: Sony Computer Entertainment & Media Molecule

While playing your latest game, "LittleBigPlanet" in the first level of the third world in the game (titled "Swinging Safari", I have noticed something strange in the lyrics of the music track of the level. When I listened carefully, I was surprised to hear some very familiar Arabic words from the Quran. You can listen to part of the track here:

        mt14.quickshareit.com/share/p...lip22503c0.wav

        The words are:

1- In the 18th second: "كل نفس ذائقة الموت" ("kollo nafsin tha'iqatol mawt", literally: 'Every soul shall have the taste of death').

2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: "كل من عليها فان" ("kollo man alaiha fan", literally: 'All that is on earth will perish').

I asked many of my friends online and offline and they heard the exact same thing that I heard easily when I played that part of the track. Certain Arabic hardcore gaming forums are already discussing this, so we decided to take action by emailing you before this spreads to mainstream attention.

We Muslims consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Quran deeply offending. We hope you would remove that track from the game immediately via an online patch, and make sure that all future shipments of the game disk do not contain it.

We would also like to mention that this isn't the first time something like this happened in videogames. Nintendo's 1998 hit "Zelda: Ocarina of Time" contained a musical track with islamic phrases, but it was removed in later shipments of the game after Nintendo was contacted by Muslim organizations. Last year, Capcom's "Zack & Wiki" and Activision's "Call of Duty 4" also contained objectionable material offensive to Muslims that was spotted before the release of the final games, and both companies thankfully removed the content.

We hope you act immediately to avoid any confusion and unnecessary controversy, and we thank you for making such an amazing game.

        Regards,

        yasser

    • 1:16pm BST - October 17th, 2008

total bulls**t really. don't mind people being muslims but I kinda find it offensive that MM are not allowed to make the game how they want (in this kind of way) and that I'm not allowed to listen to that music in the game just because muslims take their religion THAT seriously.. Because guess what muslims, I'm NOT a muslim and I can listen to arabic music if I want, and besides islamic religion does not OWN any phrases, people can sing whatever they want, if it's in the Qu'ran or not.. It's childish and ridicilous, and people/companies should not react to these idiotic things.. ok, they might "offend" some of their userbase, but so be it...

    • 1:33pm BST - October 17th, 2008

Well there is not much to say about this that won't have you pulling your hair out and shouting people get a f(((( life,

But apparently this is offensive, god help us.

Mind you, it's not Sony's fault, they have to make sure they don't alienate people, i just find it a bit sad that this really would cause problems, thats all im saying.

    EDIT>

Just reading a previous post which quote's the letter received from Sony.

I find it deeply disturbing how someone could find things that are objectionable to Islam in COD4 yet not find the fact that it's a game where you essentially murder people objectionable.

Priorities here seem to be out the window IMO, people regardless of race, sexuality, whatever need to get of their collective high horses and just accept a game for what it is.

I myself am gay, did i find anything objectionable in any of the GTA games? NO! Because its a game, don't take it seriously.

Its cool if they delay it because of that. Next thing you know, if sony had released it, they would have been accused of spreading terrorist messages via a game medium.

It may not be intended as such but i can just see the headlines already. I swear though by reading these posts. Sony has the most immature, selfish and disrepectful little fans out there. If Sony fails in this generation, it would be because of the horrible support base more than anything else. Pull your heads out of your bums.

Looks guys, it's really a sensitive matter and some respect would be much appreciated. It is known world wide that Islam is a sensitive religion so why even bother tinkering with it in the first place? Music is strictly forbbiden in the religion so it's necessary that this be taken. It's only been delayed by 6 days, not much of big deal.

@19,20 what selfishness are u talking about, i am a muslim, u know whats the difference between musllims and westerns is that we give some respect for religions and cultures. and plus its not like it is delayed for another year.

@ 45, plz can u tell me how old r u? u wish that a muslim would burn just for a stupid game?

@ 39, u r the first one here who makes sense, thank u. and plus muslims were mad because they mixed quran with music, but its ok to listen to music in our religion.

and i think thats a smart move by the company, u know why? how many muslim gamers in this world??? mmm muslims are like more than  1200,000,000 which means there looooots of muslims gamers who wouldnt buy this game if it is offending. AND THAT ISNT GOING TO HELP THE SALES OF THE GAME.

im not tryin to offend nyone but if something is ok for u, doesnt mean its ok for someone else.

    Peace every one. :)
